Good article Kelly! Growing up on a ranch, our animals were largely used for food and income. I remember butchering many chickens with my Mom. Was it my favorite job, no, but it was a necessity. We humans have turned most animals in to pets and they aren’t meant to be. I would never eat my dog or cat, although in many cultures it is acceptable. I have eaten horse meat in Belgium. I continue to enjoy many of my favorite meats as a carnivore! Bon Appetite!!

So much to digest here. Literally and otherwise.

Don't think I can kill a chicken, or other animal, myself. I am grateful others are willing to do that.

Never hunted myself, however, have eaten meat others have hunted. Again, I'm grateful for that.

Had a roommate once that was freaked out by chicken still on the bone. For me, boneless, skinless chicken breasts and thighs give me the creeps. I have cooked and eaten them, but it's certainly not my go-to.

Rabbit? Yummy, at least how I remember it.

Horse? Never set out to have it, however, not unknown in Europe. I suspect I had it at least once or twice. Yes, I try not to think about that as a protein source, but to others, it certainly might be on the menu.

Once again, thank you for putting at least a part of your life out there to share with the rest of us.

So here is my story, many years ago in my youth I worked on a kibbutz in Israel (I grew up in Israel). So for a few days we were inoculating the baby turkeys. Basically, a gun with the antibiotics that I'd shoot into the chest, every once in a while I'd hit the heart, and that would kill the bird. the first time it happened, I was upset, by the 3-4 time, after inoculating hundreds, I just didn't care. Such is industrial farming. No we didn't eat those birds, it was a religious kibbutz, birds must be killed Kosher and they weren't. I totally respect what you do - care very well for your animals- and when the time comes - eat them. Btw, in season II of Clarkson's farm he ends up with a pet cow - because he is rich enough to do so.
