Thanksgiving is over, which means that period of the year where the time-space-continuum bifurcates into two different threads starts in earnest.
For adults, especially those in charge of gifting, housecleaning, decorating, cooking, party-planning, babysitter scheduling, and trying to create the magic of an enjoyable season, the clock ticks at a dizzying pace. For our children, who simply CAN NOT WAIT for the last few minutes of school to be done so they can then count down every dragging second to Santa, their time is swimming through quicksand.
As my Granddad always used to say, "life is logarithmic."
One fun tradition we started last year is a post-Thanksgiving sushi lunch. Everyone in our family loves to partake of some delicious sashimi and rolls. After a long Thanksgiving weekend filled with butter and more butter, sushi feels like an excellent palate cleanser to start the dash to Christmas.
This year for Thanksgiving, I made a literal gallon of gravy. My brother-in-law deep-fried a turkey and added bacon bits to the mashed potatoes "for good measure." And my sister-in-law made a post-Thanksgiving lobster pasta dish that could rival any James Beard restaurant. I was starting to feel my arteries clogging and my heart crying out. It's not Thanksgiving if you're not breathing a little harder by the end.
